I’m sure we’ve all seen the sweet black and white photograph of Harry and Meghan beaming at other, which they used to break their pregnancy announcement. That’s right, baby number two! Who wouldn’t be excited for the happy couple especially after Meghan broke the news that she suffered a miscarriage last year?

Piers Morgan wouldn’t. The slimy British tabloids wouldn’t. Let’s not forget all of the other bitter Betty’s who have taken the time to turn such a lovely thing into a big taboo and debate. I can’t name them all unfortunately. I don’t care to.
I refer to Meghan as the people’s princess because despite the repeated and obvious attempts to smear her image, she is still being fiercely defended by her fans – many of whom previously expressed no interest in the royals at all. Her story reminds so many of us of Princess Diana. Constantly hounded by press and under an enormous amount of pressure to adhere to royal protocol that the average person couldn’t care less about.
Maybe the palace wanted Kate to be the one we all fawned over. It does seem that may be the issue at hand. Of course, I’m just speculating. One wouldn’t wish to get their head chopped off for saying too much.
But seriously, it does seem so odd that Kate is pushed into our faces as this unbelievable Disney-like caricature and Meghan is painted to be her villainous counterpart. Everybody needs to get a grip. Kate is going to be Queen. We all get that. Congrats, even. But can our good sis Meghan catch a break? She’s already given them back their title. Which is a bold move as ordinary girls don’t usually get the opportunity to become princesses* in the first place.
She really is the main girl in the movie; the underdog being bullied by the other girls for whichever reason (most likely jealousy) and I don’t think the royals can stand it. How dare the beautiful mixed-race lady come and steal the show by being her elegant lovely-self. Ghastly. Shocking. Horrid.
I wonder if the tabloids know that this is exactly how they sound when they nit pick her every move. I can’t even for a second try and pretend that racism is not involved here. It’s not “racial undertones”, it’s not “racially suggestive”. It is RACISM.
BBC presenters insinuating that little Archie is a monkey. / Meghan not being allowed to enjoy avocados. / Meghan being constantly and unforgivingly hounded for doing the exact same things as Kate. /
It’s honestly embarrassing. The royal family are supposed to represent grace and unity. There is nothing gracious about how they have treated Meghan. If only she could be afforded a fraction of the protection that Prince Andrew has been, maybe the royals wouldn’t leave such a sour and bitter taste in a lot our mouths.
I’m glad that Harry and Meghan are going to speak to Oprah. Even if they don’t say too much in the interview it quite clearly is a big message (if not a middle finger) to the rest of the royal family. They can not be silenced and they will not play by anybody’s stiff and snooty rule book. Love that for them. Very millennial.
The interview has already sparked a lot of debate and ruffled more than a couple of feathers. However, audiences will have to wait until the 7th of March to watch what has been described by CBS as an “intimate conversation”. Regardless of what they say I’m certain that there will be an explosive reaction from the usual suspects.
Nevertheless, I’m rooting for you Megs, speak your truth!
*Her official title is/was as a “Duchess”. This is one place below a princess. Traditionally, one can only become a princess by marrying a direct heir to the throne or being the child or grandchild of the king or queen.
