It’s undeniable that Misha B is a powerful vocalist. The nation fell in love with her after her stint on X Factor in 2011, in which she placed fourth. From her very first audition, which has now amassed over 13 million views on Youtube, there was an obvious element of star power about her. So, what happened?
Many people cite Tulisa Contostavlos, who was a judge on the show at the time, as the reason that Misha didn’t ‘blow’ in the way that was anticipated. The former N-Dubz singer referred to Misha as “feisty” and stated that she had made some “mean comments” about other contestants. There were rumours and speculations indicating that the members of Little Mix were the alleged victims. However, these claims have never been substantiated with further details.
Many contestants from the series, including Frankie Cocozza and Little Mix themselves, described Misha as “nice” and “hardworking”. Perrie Edwards, at the time, suggested that any incident that occurred should have just “blown over”.
It didn’t. After those allegations were made in week 3, it caused a media storm around Misha. Gary Barlow (also a judge during that season), was particularly keen to clear Misha’s name. Declaring in the semi- finals, she had “been wrongfully accused” of being someone she wasn’t. He further added that her chances of winning were most likely over due to the rumours.
Misha did enjoy charting success after the show, her singles ‘Home Run’ and ‘Do You Think Of Me?’ peaked at 11th and 9th place on the UK singles chart. ‘Here’s To Everything (Ooh La La)’, which samples The Fugees, also charted at number 35.
After 2013 everything seemed to slow down until Misha blew everyone away with her recent releases.
‘Rosa Parks Flow’
Misha stuns in vibrant outfit selections in her music video. The song itself shows how she has matured throughout the years. The sound is cool and classic, which is instantly complemented by her confident lyrics.
‘Letter to My Sistars’
Misha describes her early childhood while wishing well to her ‘sisters’. This tune screams of female empowerment, brown skin girl appreciation and how caring and protective Misha is of her loved ones.
It looks like 2020 is going to be a very interesting year for Misha. Her musical direction has shifted and there is absolutely a gap in the market for her sound. It’s time for her to “bring smiles to people’s faces” just as she first told us she would almost nine years ago.
